Good Looking, but Not Too Sharp

Let’s just suppose you’re trying to attract new clients. Great!

Now, let’s suppose you’re going around handing out business cards that have the wrong phone number printed on them. And not just any wrong number, but a number that’s been disconnected.

While you’re wondering what the point of this post is, check out this law firm’s Web site. Very attractive, is it not?

To the point: suppose you want to contact this firm. You display the firm’s contact page and then you click the firm’s e-mail address.

And guess what? You promptly receive an e-mail message from some Mail Delivery Subsystem, and the subject line reads Returned mail: delivery problems encountered. In other words, that e-mail address doesn’t work! Sending mail to it is like calling a disconnected number.

So far, I’ve alerted four five attorneys at the firm to the problem, yet it persists. Go figure!

Update: It’s nearly three months since I wrote this post. The e-mail address still doesn’t work. Obviously, the attorneys don’t give a hoot about their Web site. It probably isn’t doing them much good anyway. All the copy is set as images, so the whole site looks like a bunch of blank pages to a search engine.
