Eyes are on Bill Lester in today’s race in Michigan. What everyone’s talking about is the historic aspect of it — Lester is the first African American driver to race in the Cup series at Michigan since 1986.

NASCAR remains an institution of white men, but that’s about to change. Just watch what happens.

What does NASCAR have to do with law firm diversity? Imagine this: a law firm sponsoring a Cup series car. That’s considerable advertising in itself, but imagine this: the car is driven by a woman who’s a member of a minority ethnic group. Now that’s a commitment to diversity that will not go unnoticed.

Lester’s prospects for today’s race aren’t fantastic. He qualified #34. But check out Melanie Troxel. She’s qualified #11 in today’s drag race in Englishtown. What a year this young lady is having!

OK. It’s just too expensive to sponsor a Cup series car, but what about a dragster? Imagine seeing Sheppard, Mullin, Richter & Hampton going by at 320 mph!
