I was practicing my cold-calling technique; one morning, I called the firm’s CMO and introduced myself.
I told her what I did, and she put me in touch with the firm’s director of marketing.
Once again, my timing was spot on.
The marketing director was planning to revise the firm’s Web site, and she wanted me to copy edit most of the content.
Here’s what I did:
- Made a local copy of the firm’s Web site (via Adobe Acrobat).
- Cataloged the site; the catalog was used to determine which pages to edit, and in what order.
- Edited the pages in Microsoft Word; Word’s tracking feature made it easy for others to see what I cut, what I added, and what I altered. I also left comments where called for.
That was my second experience helping a large firm revise its Web site.
