Thelen Reid
Who says cold-calling is an absolute waste of time? It’s not.
When I first started offering writing and editing services to law firms, I applied a technique I’d use before. I prepared a list of prospects (law firm CMOs and marketing directors) and I called so many of them each day.
One day, I called the new CMO at Thelen Reid. I introduced myself, and offered to be of service.
My timing was excellent: the marketing department was in the process of redesigning the firm’s Web site.
I met the CMO and the person who “owned” the site. I presented some ways to improve the copy, and I suggested that consistency (in formatting) be given priority. They agreed. They asked me to go through the site and redline the whole thing.
After that, I helped produce a series of practice area brochures.
It was my first experience helping a law firm look its best.
